(:title Novell NetWare Installed Utilities:) Throughout my career, working on NetWare servers, I have run across many utilities that have saved my but time and time again. (most of these utilities can be found at Novell Cool Solutions) As I work on servers, I always make sure that I load these utilities on the server in a separate directory, so that they are there when I need them! Another trick I have learned is to use the Novell Installation Scripts to standardize the common set parameters around a network. During my years, I have seen time and time again, Junior Administrators type in the wrong settings for the Time Sync, or SLP or ... These small problems can cause wierd problems further down the line that can be very difficult to troubleshoot. Not to mention that it is just better to have all your servers working off the same "song sheet" So I create a Custom Installation Script that sets all the basic parameters to the same settings. All I do is load/expand this file on the SYS volume under a common folder (in my case sys:\brandt). Then I run NWCONFIG and load the IPS file underneath that folder and choose the options I want to set for that server. In addition to the server settings I can also use this utility to:
Note: My scripts assume that DNS is setup properly and that there are three SLP and NTP servers each with an A record as such (NTP1, NTP2, NTP3, SLP1, SLP2, SLP3). Download the zip file: Brandt NetWare Utility Script |
